City Awarded $500,000 for Saginaw Boulevard Landscaping and Beautification

In April 2018, Saginaw City staff, in partnership with our City Engineer firm Kimley-Horn, submitted an application for funding as part of the Texas Department of Transportation’s (TXDOT) competitive Green Ribbon Grant program. The Green Ribbon Grant program provides cities with funds to landscape and beautify street-scapes along TXDOT-maintained thoroughfares, such as Saginaw Boulevard. Grant awards may only be used for landscaping and irrigation. However, cities may choose to build hard-scapes like medians, planters, or sidewalks that then are eligible for Green Ribbon funded beautification.

The City of Saginaw was recently notified that their application was selected to be funded in the amount of $500,000 with improvements focused on Saginaw Boulevard. We hope that this grant award is the first of several in years to come.

The City will be able to apply again each year for new phases and project improvements. Project details, design, and schematics are in the very early stages of review. A construction contract will likely commence during the summer of 2019 to begin the project.
