We are proud to announce two important staff promotions in the fire department effective August 28, 2019.
Fire Captain Bobby Cartwright: Bobby Cartwright is being promoted to the rank of Fire Captain from his previous rank of Lieutenant. The department has three Captains, one assigned to each of our three shifts. The Captains are the highest ranking shift duty officers and are responsible for overseeing the personnel and operations of both fire stations on their respective shifts. Captain Cartwright will be assigned to C shift at fire station 2 and has been with our department since January of 2000.
Fire Lieutenant Michael Deford: Michael Deford is being promoted to the rank of Fire Lieutenant from his previous rank of Apparatus Operator. The department has three Lieutenants, one assigned to each of our three shifts. The Lieutenants work under the direction of the shift Captains and are responsible for the overseeing the personnel and operations of their assigned shift and station. In the absence of the Captain, the Lieutenants assume the responsibility of overseeing the personnel and operations of both fire stations. Lieutenant Deford will be assigned to A shift at fire station 2 and has been with our department since April of 2007.
Staff promotions were necessary due to the retirement of Fire Captain Darrell Gilbert who completed an honorable and dedicated 34 years of service with the city. “I am completely confident in both Captain Cartwright and Lieutenant Deford’s abilities to be successful in these higher leadership roles within our department and their dedication to ensure we continue to deliver the highest quality emergency services to our citizens” states Fire Chief Spears.
