City Council Candidate Packets Available

Mayor and City Council Place 2 will be on the May 4, 2024, ballot. All are three-year terms. If you are interested in running for a seat, city council candidate packets are available online at www.saginawtx.org/elections, via email at jengland@saginawtx.org or at City Hall, 333 W. McLeroy Blvd, Monday - Thursday from 7:30AM to 5:30PM; Fridays 7:30AM to 11:30AM (except on January 15, 2024, as the city is closed in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr Day). 

The filing period is open from January 17 through February 16.  The last day to file as a write-in candidate will be February 20, 2024.

UPDATE: In addition to Mayor and Council Place 2, residents will be voting in a Special Election for Council Place 4. 

FAQ's 

How do I get my name on the ballot? 
Submit your candidate packet to the City Secretary within the filing period.

What places are on the ballot for the May 4, 2024 election and how long are the terms?
Mayor and Council Place 2 are up for election this year. Both are three-year terms.  
The unexpired term of office for Councilmember Place 4 will be filled by Special Election on May 4, 2024. 

Are different council places related to physical locations? Do I have to live in a certain area of the city to run in a specific place? 
No, all the places are at-large, meaning anywhere within the City of Saginaw's corporate limits.  

Does it cost money to run for City Council? 
No, there is no fee associated with running for City Council. 

Is being a council member or mayor a full-time job? Do I get paid? 
No, service on the City Council is not a full-time job. However, council meeting attendance requirements do exist. Each member of the council, including the mayor, is paid $25 per regularly scheduled meeting attended.  

How often does the council meet, where, and what time? 
City Council regular council meetings are held on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month. They are held at Saginaw City Hall in the Council Chambers and normally begin at 6:00PM. During the year, there are several times that special council meetings are held, usually on an as-needed basis.  

As a candidate for City Council, with whom and where do I file my paperwork? 
All required paperwork is filed with the City Secretary at Saginaw City Hall, 333 W. McLeroy Blvd. Please remember it is each candidate's responsibility to meet all required deadlines.
