Assistant Chief Russell Ragsdale has more than 27 years in municipal law enforcement service, holding positions of Police Officer, Detective, Sergeant, Lieutenant, Captain and Assistant Chief of Police. He is a graduate of the Bill Blackwood Law Enforcement Management Institute of Texas: Leadership Command College and the Command Staff Leadership Series, and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy in Quantico, VA.
Assistant Chief Ragsdale hired into the Saginaw Police Department in February 2009 at his present rank, supervising the Police Operations Division. In 2013, he transitioned to the Support Services Division, which includes Criminal Investigations, Communications, Community Services and Professional Standards.
Prior to his time with Saginaw, Assistant Chief Ragsdale served the Haltom City Police Department for nearly 18 years. At the time of his leaving, he served as Lieutenant of Police Operations (Patrol, Criminal Investigations, and Traffic) and Commander of the SWAT team. Other areas of service in Haltom City included Professional Standards, Community Services, Criminal Investigations, Crime Scene Search, and Patrol.
Assistant Chief Ragsdale holds a Master Peace Officer, Instructor, and Firearms Instructor certification from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement, and earned his Master of Science in Applied Criminology from Texas A&M- Commerce in 2018.
